Hormone Pellets

Hormone Pellet TherapyHormone pellet therapy is quickly becoming the most preferred route for receiving bio-identical hormones in men and women. This quick and virtually painless procedure takes place right in our office. Creams and gels can be very messy and have the risk of transference. Pills can easily be forgotten or injections can be quite painful for some patients. Pellets have been found to offer the most steady and consistent delivery of hormones for many patients.

Testosterone therapy was once thought of only for men. However, women can also benefit from replacing testosterone. The many benefits include improved energy, increased sex drive and satisfaction, decreased fat mass and mood stabilization. Estradiol pellets can help decrease or eliminate signs of menopause such as hot flashes, low bone density, night sweats, sleeplessness and vaginal dryness. For men, some of the benefits of testosterone replacement include increased ability to focus, improvement in sex drive, intensity of erections, mood stabilization and decreased fat mass.

What is the procedure like?

Once the area of insertion is prepped, a very small incision is made in the upper hip/buttocks area. Tiny rice size hormone pellets are then inserted into the small opening. Once the pellets are placed, steri-strips are applied and you are finished. The entire visit usually lasts less than 20 minutes, however, the benefits last several months and are steadily delivered into your system. This mimics the natural process of your body metabolizing hormones. Most patients return in 3-4 months for new pellets to be inserted.

An initial consult, lab draw and thorough history and physical exam are required prior to pellet insertion. Also, mammogram and yearly checkups need to be up to date.
