Women’s Health

Menopause | Female Hormones | Hot Flashes | Estrogen

  • Have you noticed weight gain?
  • Are you struggling with insomnia?
  • Are you experiencing low sex drive?
  • Are you experiencing mood swings?
  • Are hot flashes disrupting your day?

The balance of hormones is vital to a woman’s health but in Menopause, when levels are dropping, a deficiency of one hormone can trigger excess of another and various imbalances. These imbalances cause the effects we so commonly see, such as: mood swings, hot flashes, insomnia, migraines, risk for disease, acne and hair loss.

Menopause

EverVitalMD providers look at a variety of hormone levels including Estrone, estradiol, progesterone, SHBG, testosterone, free testosterone, FSH, DHEA, melatonin, and cortisol to find the imbalance. EverVitalMD also utilizes blood and saliva levels as needed to capture the most accurate levels for treatment.

Our free hormones in our bodies represent the available hormones we have for use, meaning the hormones that can attach to cells in our bodies in order for us to function.

EverVitalMD utilizes its integrative and preventative approach to look at the cause through testing, holistic and natural treatments as well as bio-identical hormone therapy. We also incorporate various preventative treatments such as stress reduction, exercise, natural therapies and various organic foods. The end goal is optimal hormone balance based on each individual’s needs by listening to how you feel and also optimal lab values.

What Are Bioidentical Hormones?

The term “bioidentical” means the hormone molecule is structurally identical to the hormones produced by the human body.  Bioidentical hormones are available in many forms including patches, pills, topical creams, vaginal suppositories and pellets inserted under the skin.  Some are available from pharmaceutical companies and are FDA approved and some are specially prepared by a compounding pharmacy.

Hormone Pellets

Hormone pellet therapy is quickly becoming the most preferred route for receiving bio-identical hormones in men and women. This quick and virtually painless procedure takes place right in our office. Creams and gels can be very messy and have the risk of transference. Pills can easily be forgotten or injections can be quite painful for some patients. Pellets have been found to offer the most steady and consistent delivery of hormones for many patients.

Testosterone therapy was once thought of only for men. However, women can also benefit from replacing testosterone. The many benefits include improved energy, increased sex drive and satisfaction, decreased fat mass and mood stabilization. Estradiol pellets can help decrease or eliminate signs of menopause such as hot flashes, low bone density, night sweats, sleeplessness and vaginal dryness. For men, some of the benefits of testosterone replacement include increased ability to focus, improvement in sex drive, intensity of erections, mood stabilization and decreased fat mass.

What is the procedure like?

Once the area of insertion is prepped, a very small incision is made in the upper hip/buttocks area. Tiny rice size hormone pellets are then inserted into the small opening. Once the pellets are placed, steri-strips are applied and you are finished. The entire visit usually lasts less than 20 minutes, however, the benefits last several months and are steadily delivered into your system. This mimics the natural process of your body metabolizing hormones. Most patients return in 3-4 months for new pellets to be inserted.

An initial consult, lab draw and thorough history and physical exam are required prior to pellet insertion. Also, mammogram and yearly checkups need to be up to date.

Upon determining symptoms, our professionals will utilize a combination of blood and saliva testing to:

  • Determine hormone imbalances caused by too much or too little hormone
  • Match your hormone levels with your symptoms
  • Determine individualized treatment plans
  • Monitor and retest to adjust treatment and or dosage amounts
  • Track individual progress and provide feedback and reports

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a very personal way to approach medical care. It deals with finding the root cause of chronic disease rather than naming a disease and treating your symptoms with medications.
